Homelessness knows no season, and that certainly includes the summertime. Since relocating our main campus to 500 East Walnut Street in downtown Evansville, our nightly census of homeless men seeking shelter has remained steady with an average of 140 men calling your Evansville Rescue Mission their temporary home on a given evening.

Your ERM Direct Care team is constantly monitoring weather conditions; particularly, during the summer and winter.

As part of a city-wide initiative, your Evansville Rescue Mission raises a red flag on the southwest corner of our main campus off of Walnut Street in Evansville anytime the “real feel” temperature is 90 degrees or hotter. And with all the humidity the Tri-State faces during the summertime, it is not uncommon for your ERM to hang up the red flag for a summer day in the early to mid-eighties temperature-wise.

Here, any homeless male, who is at least eighteen years-old can seek refuge inside your ERM Residence Center’s Atrium where they can enjoy air conditioning and a cold bottle of water. Women and children can visit your Residence Center a little bit before our breakfast, lunch, and dinner meal times to escape the heat outside, as well.

During Red Flag days, your Evansville Rescue Mission always ensures our pantry is filled with bottled water.

That being said, your local Mission could always use bottled water donations.

Would you consider having your business, church, civic club, neighborhood, or family consider organizing a bottled water drive for your ERM? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Bottled water donations can be delivered to your ERM’s main campus (500 East Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47713) at any time. Just follow the “food donation” signage to the east side of our facility for your bottled water deliveries, ring our buzzer, and someone will gladly assist you to unload.

Your ERM also gladly accepts monetary donations to purchase bottled water. Please click here to give online.

If you have any questions concerning The Red Flag program, please contact your ERM at 812.421.3800 or at info@ermstaff.org.

Reverend Tracy L. Gorman, who has served as your Evansville Rescue Mission’s President/Chief Executive Officer since October of 2008, has been appointed to take on the role of Vice-President of the Association of Gospel Rescue Mission’s (AGRM) Great Lakes District.

Nearly 300 Rescue Missions (including your Evansville Rescue Mission) throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad are members of the AGRM, which serves as an invaluable networking resource for governance, policy, operations, programming, financial controls, fund raising, and public relations in order to better assist Rescue Missions as Missions daily serve our communities’ homeless and less fortunate.

Previously serving as Treasurer for AGRM’s Great Lakes District, Tracy now serves as Vice-President for the aforementioned District comprised of 80 member Missions, located within the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Rev. Tracy L. Gorman states, “I will assist our approximately 80 member Missions by offering coaching, counsel, resourcing, and encouragement to member Mission leaders. As is custom, it will be my goal to visit each of the member Missions during my term, and I look forward to that journey.”

If all the food at the Fall Festival wasn’t enough already, two new booths have squeezed their way in, getting a spot in the lineup this year.

Everyone’s got their favorite stops.

“There’s the steady things that people eat throughout the week, the Texas tenderloins, the pronto pups, all the things. The staples,” said 2017 Publicity Chairman Jeremy Melton.

But at the 96th Annual Fall Festival, you’ll be seeing two new booths that have been ready to serve their tasty treats for a while now.

“We’ve got a three to five year waiting list for new booths,” said Melton.

So, who’s new to the festival this year?

“The Evansville Rescue Mission and the West Side Sportsmen’s Club Educational Foundation.”

And both booths have already previewed a few of their specialties on social media.

This year there were two: The Evansville Rescue Mission and the West Side Sportsmans Education Foundation.

Booth number 136 on your Munchie Map is the Evansville Rescue Mission, located right in front of the Gerst Haus.

“We’ve made sure every single year that we’re on the list and we were just fingers crossed that we would get in and this year they notified us and said ‘hey, you’re in’  and so here we are,” said Tracy Gorman, the President/CEO of the Evansville Rescue Mission.
